THE INSPIRATION TO USE FUNGI TO HELP US WITH OUR LARGEST SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGES
Fungi hold the potential to become the super savior to some of humanity`s largest environmental challenges. Be it fighting climate change, addressing severe biodiversity loss, ensuring a more regenerative agriculture, a circular economy or replacing petroleum based or other harmful products with more sustainable and biobased ones.
However, we have only scratched the surface in unlocking and harnessing the power of this remarkable kingdom. There is so much more to explore!
With The Future is Fungi Award, we want to honor and uncover the frontier and cutting-edge science that explores the utilization of fungi for environmental solutions. We aim to put the spotlight on NEW and EMERGING areas of fungal research and start-up innovations, lifting them from the depth of the forest into the daylight.
Our goal is also to inspire further research and innovation in the bottomless fields of fungal research and applications.
Real-world problems needs real-world solutions. We therefore also want to nudge the commercialization of fungal research, to bring its solutions into real world – and accelerate us onto a more sustainable, regenerative path.
Together, we accelerate the fungal revolution!

The winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony the 23rd of November, an event that takes place digitally.
THE STORY BEHIND THE AWARD
A sustainability strategist and a biologist came together over their fascination for fungi, and the curiosity and belief in the potential of the third kingdom. How we have just started scratch the surface of the ways this magical creature can help us fight some of humanity’s largest challenges.
What more can we use fungi for?
Susanne and Lech are both excited about the groundbreaking and cutting-edge ideas and applications - the advancements that have the potential to put us on a regenerative trajectory for the planet we call home.
We also firmly believe in the importance of research.
Further, even though fungi holds enormous potential, it has not been fully recognized in the way we think it deserves. With this award, we want to uncover and back new ways we can use fungi for the better of the planet - and give well-deserved recognition to the researchers and start-ups behind it.
